Stav Kounadea
I’ve lived in Oxford since 2005 when I first came here to do a Master’s at Oxford Brookes University specialising in Contemporary Performance and Live Art.
Alongside my performance practice, and having always loved live music (who doesn’t want to be in a band - right?) I joined noise band Elapse-O as a vocalist, fronted the avant-rock anarcho-situtationist music collective Nonstop Tango and recorded vocals for False Friends. I’m also one half of Readymade Theatre with composer and performance artist Austin Sherlaw-Johnson. Other key collaborators have included sound artists Ray Lee and Felicity Ford.
Troubled by the lack of spaces in Oxford for artists to collaborate, I founded and ran the artist-led platform Playground (funded by ACE and Oxford City Council) occurring every two months for 5 years (2012 – 2017) at the Old Fire Station including two micro-festivals that took over the entire building and adjacent outdoor areas. I was also the Festival Manager for the sound art and experimental music festival Audiograft until 2018 and in 2019 I started the artistic exchange society Postcard Club which is still taking place monthly.
In other news, I am an Associate Lecturer at Oxford Brookes (Art & Music), regular collaborator of OCM (Oxford Contemporary Music) as a Producer on their talent development programmes and up until recently the Project Manager of the Oxford Cultural Anti-Racism Alliance (OCARA).
I’ve been writing lyrics and poetry that no one gets to hear ever since I learned how to write, having composed my first song for voice and piano at the age of 9.
